Focus on sustainability and the environment

Nordisk Perlite focuses on the environment and sustainability in all products, activities and processes.

Our raw material is a natural product in the form of a volcanic rock. Manufacturing of Perlite requires no use of chemicals. The finished product is chemical-free and environmentally friendly. It can be 100% recycled after use and returned to nature as opposed to Kiselguhr, which requires special waste disposal. There is no waste or by-products in the production of Perlite, as all particle sizes and densities are used. Hence, Nordisk Perlite helps protect and conserve resources and the environment when we produce Perlite.

Perlite is amorphous and not harmful to humans. In contrast, Kiselguhr can provide stone lungs that are dangerous to humans. Perlite’s significantly higher density compared to Silica means that at least 30% less Perlite is used compared to Silica. This has a positive effect on the environment and transportation cost.

As the only Perlite manufacturer in the world, Nordisk Perlite has developed a plant that recycles almost all the heat used in the production of Perlite. Nordisk Perlite sends the excess heat out to more than 400 households in the local area. The reuse of the heat from the production at Nordisk Perlite means that we have extremely low energy consumption and this helps to reduce the environmental impact and contributes to sustainable development.

Part of the energy consumption and CO2 emissions that occur during the production of Perlite is repealed when it is included and used in the finished products, for example:

  • Perlite for insulation of walls, floors and ceilings is an energy saving measure
  • Perlite is included as soil improvement for plants that consume CO2
  • Perlite is used as a filler in building materials, which makes building material easier and reduces transportation cost

Nordisk Perlite chooses partners who have an environmental policy that we find responsible.

Nordisk Perlite ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and applicable legislation
